The Sunday Scoop!

I'm soooooo excited to be linking up for the first time with the amazing teacher blogger gals from the Teaching Trio for their The Sunday Scoop Linky Party!  So here's my first copy of the Sunday Scoop!

 It's so much fun to join in on a linky party, because I feel like I get a glimpse into the lives and classrooms of some AMAZING TEACHERS!  It energizes me, even if I do get sucked into the vortex of wanting to read and check out every-other-blog-I-see!  For me, my "have-to" list is pretty mundane, but if I just quit procrastinating it would probably already be done!  Fortunately for me, the hubs will help with the meal planning and grocery shopping and my student teacher will be carrying most of the weight for the weekly lesson planning this week--that just leaves me the daunting task of weekly student progress notes!

Onto my "hope-to" list!  I've been reading all about how to "spice-up" my TPT store thanks to Christi at Ms. Fultz's Corner!  I can't wait to watch her tutorial and learn how to make my own store a little more eye-catching!  If I can get done with that in time, I hope to be sucked into the dramatic world of Downton Abbey before bed tonight! 

What do you ask am I always HAPPY TO DO?  That would be snuggle, cuddle, and kiss this sweet boy of mine!  It truly does not get much better than being his mommy!  This weekend I've been working so hard on finishing some new TPT products and updating my Owl Teach Social Media sites, that I have gotten enough kisses and love from him!  Tonight he and the hubs will be my FOCUS!

Love is in the Air

Looks like my New Year's Resolution to blog more is already at a slow start...but I do aim to do better!  January came and went so quickly and with the start of February, I truly believed that the to-do lists at home and school would get a little shorter and things would slow down some.  In fact, this past Friday, I was feeling great that I would be leaving school with copies for the following week made, work graded, plans completed, etc.  That's when my assistant principal walked in for an unannounced observation...NO BIG DEAL I said to myself!  After all, I was well-planned and doing what I should be doing!  That's when one of my sweet owlets got sick all over the back of the room--feet from that same assistant principal.  Poor sweet baby!  So my understanding administrator decided she would call for clean-up and come back another time!  Then we just laughed at how this might go down as the best observation of the year!

That being said, I'm happy to have a fresh start this week!  Of course just days before Valentine's Day, love is in the air.  I don't know about you, but my each year I'm faced with a set of students who have food allergies or diet restrictions, which can make shopping for pre-made Valentine's cards/treats a little difficult!  So this year, I found adorable packs of mini-mazes in sets of 18 for $5 in the party section at Target.  I bought a few packs, whipped up these cute tags, and have my Valentine's Day cards for the kids ready to go!  SO CUTE!

My sweet owlets are going to be doing some Valentine's Day themed problem solving this week!  QR Codes are all the rage in my classroom right now!  Students LOVE to solve problems IF they can then go check their own answers using a QR Code Scanner and iPad!  This set comes with everything you need for your students to LOVE problem solving too!

In with the NEW, Out with the FLU!

Happy New Year!

Welcome 2015!  I was so optimistic at the end of the winter quarter!  I had plans of light tours, Christmas celebrations, baby's first hair cut, time with the hubs, and extra time to create and plan for my class and blog!  So day 1 of winter break brought CROUP for little man, followed by the FLU for the hubs just days later.  Of the 11 people on my side of the family, with whom we should have been celebrating Christmas, 8 were desperately ill!  Needless to say ALL Christmas and New Years celebrations were cancelled.  My to-do list went untouched, but I was so thankful to be home on break to take care of both my boys!

So, now that everyone is finally on the mend, the decorations have been taken down and packed away, and report cards have been sent home, I can set a goal to set more regular times to work on this blog as a New Year's Resolution!  At least I will try!

My sweet owlets have been working hard on problem solving with addition and subtraction!  With all of the different types of word problems they encounter, sometimes they really struggle.  As their teacher, I find it tough to find ways to keep problem solving fun and engaging.  However, one thing my kids can't get enough of is technology!  So, I've created what I hope will be the first of many sets of problem solving task cards, which include the use of QR codes!  Cute clipart--check, practice with important problem solving skills--check, use of technology--check, self-checking--check!  These are really going to be a HIT in my classroom!
